South Jersey Resident Displaced By House Fire

A resident in Gloucester Township was left homeless by a fire, authorities said.

On Wednesday, April 5, at 5:34 p.m., Gloucester Township police responded to Briar Lane in the Blackwood section of Gloucester Township for a dwelling fire. Arriving officers found smoke and flames coming from the residence. As fire apparatus were arriving, officers ensured that the residence and neighboring homes were evacuated as a precaution, police said.

Gloucester Township Fire Departments from Glendora (Station 81), Chews Landing (Station 82), Blenheim (Station 83), Erial (Station 86) and Lambs Terrace (Station 85) along with Pine Hill and Magnolia Fire Departments arrived and quickly gained control of the fire, according to police.

The home was occupied by one resident who attempted to extinguish the fire resulting in injuries. He was taken to Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia for treatment, police said.

His name was not released.

At this time the fire does not appear suspicious and will remain under investigation by the New Jersey State Fire Marshal's Office and Lambs Terrace Fire Department Station 85, police sad.
